A flag bearer and a bounty hunter

Quote of today

"Put Captain Solo on the cargo hold."

That is Jeremy Bullochs favorite line as Boba Fett. He said that at a Star Wars Convention in Guatemala July 27-28, 2002. He also confessed that the first time he said that line, it come out: "Put Captain CARGO on the SOLO hold."

Jeremy Bulloch at his 65nd birthday (born (1945)

Today we remember...
Larry Ward who died today 1985 (born 3th October 1924)

Doug Chiang was born in Taipei, Taiwan. He was the Design Director for The Phantom Menace and Concept Design Supervisor for Attack of the Clones. We can see him in The Phantom Menace as one of the flag bearer on the grid in the Pod Race. More about him and his work can you read about in A Talk with Doug Chiang at starwars.com and at Doug Chiang Studio website.

Jeremy Bulloch was born in Leicestershire, England, UK. Back in 1979 he got a question if he wanted a small part in The Empire Strikes Back, and since "there is no such thing as a small part" he accepts to play the character Boba Fett. He also played an Imperial Officer in Cloud City in the same movie. In Return of the Jedi he reprise his role as Boba Fett and more than twenty years later we see him as Captain Colton in Revenge of the Sith. He has a blog and a website if you want to know more.

But Jeremy Bulloch is not the only one who has played Boba Fett. Despite that it is one of the minor rols in the movies there is eight people who more or less have played Boba Fett.

John Fass Morton played Boba Fett in one scene where Boba Fett is with Lando Calrissian and Darth Vader after Han Solo's been arrested, or imprisoned, where they're talking about Jabba the Hutt walking around the corridor into an elevator where Darth Vader disappears and Boba Fett is left with Billy Dee Williams.
Mark Austin  played Boba Fett in the additional scene with Jabba the Hutt in Docking Bay 94.
Nelson Hall played Boba Fett when he walks behind Jabba the Hutt during the dance number in Return of the Jedi, Special Edition.
Don Bies suited up for the additions of Boba Fett mingling with two of Jabba's dancers in Return of the Jedi, Special Edition.
Then we have Daniel Logan as the young Boba Fett and Temuera Morisson who dubbed all Boba Fett’s lines in all the Classic Trilogy, Special Edition. Before that it was Jason Wingreen who gave Boba Fett his voice.

Larry Ward was born in Ohio, USA and did the voice of Greedo in A New Hope and Jabba’s voice in Return of the Jedi. Together with Ben Burtt he also invented the Huttese language for A New Hope.

Boba Fett is the bounty hunter who helped Darth Vader to find the Millenium Falcon. You find a lot of stuff about him at The Boba Fett Fan Club.

Jabbas eyes were remote controlled by John Coppinger and his voice is made by Larry Ward.

Toby Philpott was born in London, England, UK. He started his career as a comedy juggler, acrobat and magician before he became an animatronic puppeteer. Read more about him and his work on his own website.

The early script for Star Wars (A New Hope) establishes Jabba to be just a “Hut”. He is described as a large, repulsive, fat, slug-like creature with eyes on extended feelers and a huge ugly mouth.

Two Star Wars women but three actresses

Quote of today

"There was no father... I carried him, I gave birth, I raised him... I can't explain what happened."

Shmi Skywalker describes Anakins father.
The Phantom Menace

Today we celebrate...
Pernilla Augusti at her 52nd birthday (born 1958)
Caroline Blakiston at her 77th birthday (born 1933)

(Mia) Pernilla August was born in Stockholm, Sweden. She played Shmi Skywalker in The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. Beside her role as Shmi Skywalker she has portrait Mary of Nazareth (mother of Jesus Christ). Both are women who claim their sons were the product of a virgin birth. In real life Pernilla August has three children and a father to them all.  ;)

More about this skilled and (in Sweden very) famous actress can you read in Pernilla August: Mother of the Force at starwars.com.

Caroline Blakiston was born in London, England, UK. She played Mon Mothma in Return of the Jedi.

Genevieve O’Reilly was born sometime during 1977 and she played senator Mon Mothma in Revenge of the Sith. Most of the footage of her did not appear in the theatrical release of the film, although they are included in the Deleted Scenes of the Revenge of the Sith DVD. However, she was seen briefly near the beginning of the film awaiting the Chancellor along with other Senators.

Both Genevieve O’Reilly and Caroline Blakiston are blondes in real life, even though the character has red/auburn hair.

Shmi Skywalker is Anakin’s soft-spoken mother. She and her son were slaves owned by junkdealer Watto. Subsequently is Shmi sold to the moister farmer Cliegg Lars.

In the revised rough draft, Anakin's mother is known as "Shmi Warka" and is described as a "warm, friendly woman of about fifty."

Mon Mothma was a senator in the Galactic Republic before it became an Empire. After that she helped forge the Rebel Alliance to fight for freedom in the galaxy.
